History

140 years transforming
the history of wine

Bodega La Rural was founded in 1885 by Felipe Rutini, an Italian immigrant from Ascoli Piceno, in the
Le Marche region. He came to Argentina to work as a fattore (agronomist), bringing with him the winemaking knowledge acquired in his homeland, where his father, Francisco Rutini, made homemade wine, a common practice of the time.

Felipe Rutini built the winery in Coquimbito, Maipú, the first wine-growing area of Mendoza, and over time established himself as one of the industry’s leading figures. After his death in 1919, his legacy was continued by his wife and children, who upheld and developed the pioneering spirit of Bodega La Rural, transforming it into a symbol of work, tradition, and viticultural development.

In 1924, the Rutini family made a visionary decision to plant vineyards in the Uco Valley, a region that would eventually become one of the most prestigious wine-growing areas in the world. This initiative represented a fundamental milestone in positioning Mendoza and Argentina on the international wine scene.

During the 1990s, the historic Bodega La Rural underwent a profound renewal process that integrated the valuable legacy of the 19th century with cutting-edge technology, ensuring the highest quality practices in the production of its wines.
